Necroing Necromunda...
DAY SIXTEEN: Still Alive. No one knows i am here......
So....I decided to start blogging about stuff, life and hobbies and then my computer blew up. Not literally but the hard drive went, blew the memory then fried the Motherboard. So I have a PC shaped paper weight. Que waiting on a new PC.
But that is OK. Stuff like this can happen and you just have to deal with it. Such is life. It did give me an opportunity to look at the other stuff in my hobby world and I saw that Necromunda is back and the Van Saar gang looks great.
Yup. New Project time. Because I need an excuse?
So I have purchased the basic box set, the Van Saar Gang and their Cards and Gang War 3. Whilst I am waiting for the Gang War 3 book to arrive I have prepared the Escher and Goliath gangs from the box set. And I have to say the models are really great. The Goliaths are a muscle bound brutally physical gang. Each guy looks like he went and ate the other gym members whilst working out. They are big, muscled and physical. the Escher on the other hand are agile, rock/punk chic. Each looks like they could sprint up, stick pointy things into any one who wolf whistles and then dodge out of the falling corpse's way. I think they are the best kits that GW have done for the game. All the models go together relatively easily and give a good mix of poses and weapons options. It is easy to tell what things are and importantly tell it apart from other things. I know that that is a shotgun as opposed to a lasgun or autogun.
The Van Saar? Ok..... these are not an "easy" modelling project. Each model comprises a head, neck, chest-plate, torso, left leg, right leg and a little set of tubes from the spine to the pectorals. The arms are in either a single piece, or three (upper arm, lower arm and weapon stock) and then the gun barrel goes on the front of the weapon bit. There is a left and right shoulder pad and then any accessories you want to put on.
Due to the size they are a little fiddly to put together and you have to glue one bit on, wait for it to set, glue the next bit on, etc. Even the range of Las weapons they have is complicated, the two stock types (a pistol and rifle version) can have one of three Las rifle, a plasma gun or three pistol barrels. And the difference between some of the components is fairly subtle. Looking at you Lasgun and Las Carbine. These are definitely not the usual kits from GW.
All the fiddly-ness aside...the Van Saar gang is fun to put together and looks great. Now I need to get a decent days priming weather and I will be painting 30 gangers from three different houses...
*sigh*
